Dear Members and Colleagues,
As we approach the completion of the first (partial) year of the Society, I am pleased to present a progress report.
On the back of the extensive support that we received from several individuals and all members, we have established a very strong platform and started our journey towards the goal of Improving the quality of life in CyberCity area.
Laying the foundation
Our first step was to establish a strong foundation for the Society, as a platform to enable change and represent interests of the regional companies. We focused on:
- 1. Critical mass of membership & resource base:
The first order of business was to create a viable organization, with committed, influential members. We can all be very proud of our growing member list of leading companies today. We have become cash-flow positive, and are now looking to expand our operations and impact.
- 2. Relationship with the Authorities:
We have been able to develop effective relationships with the government authorities. We were successful in creating forums for interaction between the Society members and the Authorities along with all other infrastructure service providers. We also had senior government and police officials including the Commissioner of Police Mr. S. S. Deswal, IPS, Jt. Commissioner of Police Mr. Alok Mittal, IPS, and the Municipal Commissioner Mr. R. K. Khullar, IAS, even visiting the area on many occasions to interact with us in person. Find more about what the authorities feel about our initiative.
- 3. Relationship with DLF:
Developing a cooperative relationship with DLF has helped us in aligning both the society initiatives as well as the DLF activities towards the larger goal. DLF has pledged support on various infrastructure issues that have been raised by us and have shared a plan of what they intend to improve in the area, in the short as well as in the long term. We are working with DLF to publish the plan to our members. We have an industry team jointly working with DLF on several fronts.
Quick wins
- 1. Traffic management: We started with the most obvious issue of traffic management, engaging an external agency and placing trained traffic marshals at key locations in the area. As a result, traffic flows more predictably - we have been clearing gridlocks, illegal parking, and wrong-side traffic during peak hours. Our valued partner, Holistic Securities (discovered by Maj. Gen. Sindhu of IBM) have been a delight to work with and have always delivered above and beyond.

- 2. Illegal hoardings: The illegal hoardings cropping up at major road intersections were not only an eye soar but also affected the smooth movement of traffic. With our notification and support, the government authorities led by the Municipal Commissioner Mr. R. K. Khullar, IAS, were able to do away with the illegal hoardings. Mr. Khullar also went on record committing action on this matter, and his unconditional support for the activities of the Society.
- 3. Greening: We have started greening the CyberCity area with saplings on the median. We had halted the activity due to adverse weather, but are resuming now that spring is here.
- 4. Pedestrian crossings: The Society was instrumental in identifying locations and painting the pedestrian crossings. We also placed traffic marshals to ensure a smooth flow of pedestrian traffic from the designated locations.
Long term initiatives
Now that we have the basics in place, we have kicked-off a few long term projects as well. We will make more details available on the web as these initiatives progress.
- 1. Traffic pattern study: We formed an Industry-Administration-DLF joint working group to improve traffic flow. A team led by Gunit Ahluwalia, VP Quality at Genpact, along with personnel from Genpact and Cognizant have taken the lead in applying Six Sigma methodology. This working group includes members from DLF (Mr. Arun Anand, Exec Director, and team); and the government (Mr. RK Khullar, IAS and Mr. Alok Mittal, IPS and teams). This group presented their initial findings during our last member meeting and was appreciated by all the participants.
We have started work on a joint action plan with DLF and the Authorities, where you will see ongoing changes in traffic routes, roads, and affiliated services, which include a shuttle service and an offsite parking facility for the CyberCity occupants and visitors.
- 2. Community engagement platform: We launched a basic website recently, and are developing a Community engagement platform to allow different service providers (Society, DLF and Administration) to publish plans and information, and for all members and stakeholders to post comments, questions and ideas. We are currently seeding it with useful content. I will separately seek your support to ensure that our employees are aware of and can access this platform.
- 3. Security: A working group of Sanjit Bal (Convergys), Brian Connor (Chief Security Officer, Genpact), DLF, and Alok Mittal, IPS (Jt. Commissioner of Police) has started working on improving security processes for all the buildings of the CyberCity area. More updates would be provided frequently by the team or can be viewed on our website.
An unaudited provisional financial summary of the Society's operations is being sent in a separate mail for your reference. For any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me or Ankit Lamba (ankit@cybercity.org.in or +91.99115.53929), who is a full-time resource dedicated to the Society's operations. You can also use the site to post questions, comments or suggestions.
We have a lot of individuals to thank for contributing to the growth of the Society. I find myself turning to Pavan Vaish, Pramod Bhasin and Som Mittal whenever in a pinch - they have been behind every initiative in spirit, and have delivered a way forward to every roadblock. So many other individuals have contributed in different ways, that I will not risk naming only some of them; suffice to say that it takes many great people to create a great institution.
We have accomplished a lot in a short few months, but we have miles to go yet. I look forward to your continued support.
Thanks and Regards,
Subinder
